Our final coffee & chat event of the year will be on 18th September, 1030 - 12noon at Yates on Commercial Road, Hereford. We are pleased to announce that we will have Maria Hardy from ReSPECT coming along to chat.
Who are ReSPECT?
In a crisis, health professionals may have to make rapid decisions about your treatment, and you may not be well enough to participate in making choices.
The ReSPECT process empowers you to guide the health professionals on what treatments you would or would not want to be considered for. It can also record the things that are most important to you and that should be prioritised, as well as treatments that would not work for you.
It involves a discussion between you and your Doctor, Nurse or Specialist about the treatments you would or would not want to be considered, the things that are most important to you and any treatments that would not work for you. It also includes a decision on whether the individual would want cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in the event of a cardiac arrest.
This information is recorded on a ReSPECT form, which belongs to you and is kept by you. In the event of a medical emergency the clinicians involved will refer to the ReSPECT form to support decisions about clinical intervention and treatment.
Across Herefordshire each GP Practice has adopted the ReSPECT framework and will be having conversations with patients about emergency care and treatment options. If you have a long term condition, complex health needs or just want to be prepared, you might want to think about ReSPECT: https://www.respectprocess.org.uk/patientsandcarers.php
